The third grade is doing a variety of projects, and they are learning many new things in their third grade class. One thing that they are working on was the turkey projects. They had to write a story about a turkey that saved Thanksgiving and she had to sacrifice her life for Thanksgiving. Another thing that they are doing in class is learning about planets. They are learning the order of the planets and what they do. They are having a unit test before Winter break for everything that they have learned. In Mrs. Kirby's class, they are doing a project outside with a pole. Every day they write a line down and then the shadow moves during the day. They are also learning how to do division, and they are doing a great job learning division.

Third Grade Meets Up
This year, every Friday the third graders of Mansion Avenue School meet up at 8:40-9:10, for fun in our gym! This is normally the time period for R.T.I. (R.T.I stands for response to intervention) On every other day during R.T.I They switch to different classes, to get to know different teachers and learn numerous things. But on Friday’s instead of meeting new teachers they get to meet new friends. All the 3rd Graders gather to free write and then share what they have written. A third grader Riley said, “ writing was her favorite part of learning. “After having the fun time to write they play fun activities, and games such as board games, bingo.Taylen another 3rd grader was excited when their teacher Mrs.Kirby said, “That the winners of the games may be able to pick out a bracelet they like."I believe you should have some fun on Fridays. Especially at a young age like third grade. Third grade was a fun time for everyone and this shows more evidence of just that. The 3rd grades are the best they shouted as I left there classroom.
Even if the school year is almost over, third grade is still working hard. They are learning about mass and matter in science, and measurement in math. In reading they’re doing an author study about Cynthia Rylant and Patricia Polacco. To add to the fun, they will be having a class field trip on Tuesday, April 28. They are going to see the play Tales from the Black Lagoon and then going to visit the Smith Memorial Playground. I’m sure many of you could remember going on your third grade field trip, and can agree it will be a lot of fun! I wish good luck to all of third graders, and don’t forget to tune in next time to read more about Mansion!
In 3rd grade they are learning about fun fractions! Isabella a kind third grader doesn't really like fractions only ‘a little’. They are finding out how to make equivalent fractions. They can compare fractions. The 3rd graders are working hard in math but also learning a lot about the Earth. They are reading about Antarctica and did you know that Antarctica don't have polar bears. There is a lot of penguins, whales and seals in Antarctica. 3rd Grade is working really hard and learning about new facts about an interesting habitat.
3rd grade is taking on the new year of 2015 by studying some interesting subjects. In Science they are learning about the water cycle. They will also be studying the planets. After they will be writing a research paper on the other planets in our solar system. In Math they are working on multiplication and division, which is difficult. The 3rd grade is also taking time to learn about a famous heroine, Ruby Bridges. I hope you have fun with the new information for the new year!
Have you ever thought about being in a play? Or even being a lead role? At Audubon High School they are holding a play called Les Miserable. Guess what, 10 third graders are going out to be the lead little girl in the play. Also, 2 boys from sixth grade are going out to be the lead younger boy. As it says on the fill out sheet “requires full commitment from all involved.”
The shows are on March 5,6,7 and need to be there by 5:30 and the final show starts 7:30.
Many of these kids would enjoy this because it is fun and interesting. They get to have fun learning the songs and dances! If I were them I would really want to be in the play!
We can’t wait to see Mansion Avenue school kids in the Audubon High School play!
This month, the 3rd Grade is busy with activities! They are learning about lots of interesting things. Here are some of them:
In math, they are learning how to measure mass, by putting the items on a scale and weighing them. They are recording all of those items in their Math Books. A 3rd grader in Mrs. Kirby’s class said, “ I like to measure all of the stuff, and it is really easy.” Sounds pretty fun, right? In Social Studies, they are learning how to map states and cities in the United States. They are also learning how to conserve the planet by reading a book called A River Ran Wild. The 3rd Grade teachers gave us all the good details! They told us it was about a river that kept getting polluted over the years, and at one point it looked many different colors! At the end, they clean up the river and make it so you can't pollute it. This sounds like a super interesting book!In reading, the 3rd Grade is learning how to compare and contrast stories and articles. In case you didn't know, that means they are finding the differences and similarities of two books or more. These 3rd Graders are super great at reading!
Our 3rd Grade friends this year sound like they are having a blast at their new school!

This year Mrs.Beebe’s class is playing a fun math game called Reflex Math. The game is a math based game focusing on math fluency. Mrs. Beebe was given a grant to help her get the subscription, a grant is something that is given or allowed by someone. The grant was for a year subscription. She got the idea of doing the program when her sons school started using it and he told her he liked it and that her class would like it. Her students do like the program and are happy that she found out about it.When a child knows a tough fact, I usually ask why they know that fact. The answer every time this fall has been 'I learned it on Reflex.' This is a quote from a teacher that used this program in Atlanta, Georgia.
Every class learns about something but it just happens that the 3rd grade is learning about the planets. A 5th grader said “Learning about the planets was one of my favorite things to learn about in 3rd grade.” You get to learn how the planets rotate around the sun and the order of the planets. Speaking of the order of the planets, the order is Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and then Neptune. Just in case you were wondering Pluto is not a planet any more!!!! Planets are a great thing to learn about and a very interesting thing to learn about. So if you are unfamiliar with the planets pick up a science book and flip to a page about planets and start to read!!
Math Multiplication and Curly Cursive
Third grade classes are recently learning something fun to them……..Multiplication and cursive! They have just finished lower case letters for cursive. Mrs.Battista states that shortly they will start uppercase letters. I hope their are having fun!
“Multiplication was fun once I got the hang of it.” said fifth grade student. Other kids would agree with this honest opinion. (Studies show.) Multiplication can be hard, but believe me it will get easier. Math can be great, especially when you are learning something as wonderful as multiplication!
Cursive is the same as multiplication. It could be a “walk in the park” for some but for others it can be a little difficult. No matter, it will get very easy and be great for your future writing. Lots of people, (including myself) use curvy and curly cursive for everyday use. It is quite fun to learn and simple to use.
Don’t forget, you must always keep practicing. If you give up you could end up being not as well as you might have been. Try using the computer for practice. Just click the site www.IXL.com, for great multiplication games. For cursive, I bet pencil and paper would do. I wish some good luck to the third grade!
