The fourth grade education is very exciting at the moment. In math they just recently finished long division. And they are now starting fractions. But math is not the only interesting subject. For example in science they are studying electricity, this year they also got new devices. They received energy sticks, static cubes, and snap circuits. In writing they just finished opinion writing and are starting a piece about whether or not there should be zoos. They are also starting narratives and working on using figurative language. Their RTIs are all very fascinating. As an example in Mrs. Millers RTI the students are learning geometry. They are doing a play in their individual classes. It is a play from the scholastic magazine about Thomas Edison. They are also reading 11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass. and they are soon starting a Nicky 5th book. So as you can see the current fourth grade education is really amusing.

One of Mansions traditions is reading a book by a special author. The entire school does not always read the same book, and we don't just read any book. Each grade level reads a different book by the visiting author. Now teachers don't want to bore students, so a new author comes each year. This year's 4th grade author is Wendy Mass and her exciting book is 11 Birthdays. This book is about a girl and her best friend who always share birthday parties, but one year they get into a fight. When their birthdays came around, they had a separate party. It was a horrible situation! When Amanda went to bed that night something strange happened. She woke up and her birthday started all over. She relives her birthday over and over each time learning more about friendship and the family's secret power of forgiveness. Students and teachers love this book because it has an interesting twist, and an unpredictable chapters. I highly suggest you pick up a copy of 11 Birthdays by Wendy Mass! I talked to Mrs. McCurdy and she was surprised when her predictions did not happen!
