Recently, on May 24, all of the fourth grade students participated in the NJ Ask Science test. I interviewed, Mrs. McGilloway, NJ Ask teacher for Mrs. Erney’s class about the test.
But, I will get to her in a minute, first you need some background knowledge on the NJ Ask. It is a standardised required test. The reason they are the only grade that did it is because it is required that fourth grade does it and the PARCC, the standardized test taken earlier this year, did not have a science portion. This is just some background knowledge on the NJ Ask.
Now back to my interview with Mrs Mcgilloway. I didn’t tie her down or anything but I might of moved her desk into the door path so she could not get out. Anywho, the first question I asked her was “What was your experience like doing the NJ Ask?” She replied, “It was nice to see the students show what they learned about science this year.” Then I asked she thought that the students enjoyed. She said that they were relieved because it was easier than they thought it would be. Finally, I asked her how much time it took to take the test. She said it took about 1 hour and 30 minutes, but a lot of the time was spent handing out materials and reading directions.
