This January, the students in fifth grade are starting to experience something no other grade gets to do. They are starting D.A.R.E! This stands for Drugs, Abuse, Resistance, Education. Students are learning to say “No!” to drugs, smoking, drinking, and anything that is bad for your body and your mind. Once a week two cops, Officer Candace and Officer Joe come in to talk about making good choices. Each session is 40 minutes long. A student from Mansion, Anthony B. says “I like how it keeps me from doing bad things or making bad choices. After hearing about all of the sad stories it will definitely have effect on me. I will try not to make the wrong choice.” The most exciting part for these young students is the field trip in the end. They are not sure what is going to happen but in the past trips it will most likely be fun. Also, students make essays, and posters. This is when you graduate dare. There is even a big ceremony for the students. This is 10 weeks of fun for the fifth graders. All the younger kids are looking forward for fifth grade because of this fun event.
