5th Grade Trip to the Lake

On Friday, November 22, the Mansion’s 5th Graders went on a trip to the lake. Mrs. Hartstein, Mrs. McCurdy, Mrs. Englehart, Mrs. Rosenberg and Mr. Rehn’s classes all walked to the lake. They had a lot of fun, learning about science and the ecosystem.

They went there to learn about the ecosystem. Some students found interesting things, such as producers, consumers, decomposers and natural resources. They walked around the lake in groups of friends and looked for parts in the ecosystem. Some 5th Graders picked up interesting items to share with their classes and look up what they were . They got a checklist and checked off some things that they found. One group found moss, fungi, insects and other things that are part of the ecosystem. “It was fun to walk around the lake and see the ducks, geese and swans. I can’t wait to go again”, says a 5th Grader who participated.

The 5th Grade had a lot of fun on the field trip to the lake. They will be going on it again soon during the spring.

Grade 5’s Field Trip of Fun

The Ashton Nature Center was where the fifth grade went for their field trip. The fifth grade acknowledged consumers, decomposers, and producers. They looked types of plants and animals for these in a forest, a stream, and a meadow area. This event took place on the dates of November 4th and 5th.

The fifth grade went to the Ashton Nature Center because everybody was learning science. They collected organisms and looked up species of birds, insects, and (fairly disgusting) scat samples. They seemed to love it. It was mixed with fun and science, a great thing.

In the forest the kids found fungi, evidence of birds, and worms. In the meadow area they discovered wild plants, birds, squirrels, and more. Then came the fun part. They looked through the stream to find water spiders and bugs, salamanders, and some worms. “I had a great time finding bugs in the stream!” Said a fifth grader who attended the trip.
