The conductor of the band is Mrs. Moore or Susan Moore. She is also the person who teaches the instruments in classes to the children in the school. In beginning band you have to go down to the “Batcave” Mrs. Moore calls it and try out all the instruments, except for drums. For drums you have to clap the same beat that Mrs. Moore claps and she will clap a different pattern three times. Only five people get to play drums in fourth grade band. In beginning band every week you have to practice 40 minutes each week and then when you meet the next week you get a sticker if you practiced 40 minutes like you were supposed to. When you have gotten 5 stickers you get a pretzel when you leave band practice to go back to your classroom. At the end of the year you have collected 34 stickers if you practiced every week like you were expected to do. If you get 10 stickers or up you make it into advanced band.
When you are in 5th grade you join with the sixth grade band. In beginning band you meet in the morning at 7:30 but it starts at 7:40. In advanced band you meet on Thursday at the same times. The concert is played at the Green Wave High School but sometimes is performed at the Lenape High School. When you are in the band concert you have to wear black or white or both but it really doesn't matter.
Mrs. Moore plays all the instruments that the students play in band so she can teach them to the students. When you are in band you don’t have to know how to play the instrument when you sign up for band because you will get taught. I am in band and I play the flute and I didnt know a thing about flute except that it is a woodwind and I learned a lot and I think I am pretty good all because of Mrs. Moore. She is pretty cool and I know most people would agree with me.
