Summer Reading and MathBy Jada M. Reading and math skills are important for all students. At Mansion, we provide optional summer work to help students start the new school year successfully. These assignments are two helpful tools. The first subject is reading, to complete this task you are required to read 5 or more books. ( If you have a 1,000 page book, that will count as 2 books) Reading is necessary because it helps you learn new words and new topics. Also, the more you read the better you'll understand the text and read more fluently. Math is also an activity that you can participate in over the summer. Mrs McGilloway provides you with a math website, it can help you to remember basic math facts. When you get older you will need to know your facts very quickly, this website is one way to help. Some people like to only do reading or only do math, but you can complete both subjects, if you prefer. If you hand in the math or reading paper, you will watch a funny play. You will also be entered in a raffle where lots of different gift cards will be given away! And sometimes we will get a fun treat like water ice or other times we will get ice cream!!
