Mansion Ave now has the all-new Share Bin, which is where students from all grade levels can place unneeded, clean, packaged food. Such as clean apples that are kept in a basket within the Share Bin, unopened treats, packaged fruit cups, untouched Rice Krispy Treats, and items like an unopened cup of yogurt for a school lunch or a simple bag of Doritos. The Share Bin is a cart with all the food on it that the Lunch Ladies can wheel from table to table, asking if students want free, untouched food. The Share Bin produces a lot less waste because normally kids would simply throw away a perfectly new item item of food because he or she does not want to eat it, or does not want to bring it home. So all of this brand-new food is wasted, and the Share Bin gives the unwanted food a chance to be eaten and not thrown away.
Mansion Ave school also has another feature to reducing waste, and that option is the ability to now throw away used up markers. Your first reaction to finding a dead marker perhaps will be to throw it away into the trash. This creates more unused waste and who knows where this plastic will end up. This creates a large environmental impact that is bad for the world and we need to preserve our land for as long as we can so our future is bright. We can do this one step at a time and going green at school too. x explains all the details on this new ability added to our school, ‘’’’ as you can see by all those details, this is really helping students and teachers recycle more often. Teachers often come across multiple dried up washable markers, however the greatest source of this is dried up Expo markers because teachers often use these when teaching on the white bourd every day. This brand new ability is really helping the school to reduce, reuse, and recycle!
Mansion Avenue School is also using a new grading system, where all of our report cards are electronic! We also use our Chromebooks for various quizzes and tests sometimes, using Google Classroom, which has all the online assignments your teacher may need you to do. This minimizes the use of paper by a landslide, because by the end of the year, if you don't use electronic assignment you will have unneeded stacks of paper that has been collected throughout the year. You will end up throwing this paper away, however this means it is being buried into the ground, and it will take two to six weeks for all of this to decompose!! It is ridiculous how much paper is being buried like this and so the less paper we use, the less will have to be decomposed. The electronic grades and assignments are limiting us to how much paper we use and in return the school takes one more step to going green!
As you can see, by all of this new information and how the school is helping the environment. It is a very big accomplishment that Mansion Avenue School is helping to reduce waste one step at a time with these amazing additions to the school’s regularities and so I hope we continue adding more steps like these to our daily work at school. Remember to always reduce, reuse, and recycle, especially at Mansion Avenue School!
